  • Eavestrough & Downspout

The main advantage of installing 6’’ heavy-gauge aluminum eavestroughs is its capacity to handle heavy rain downfalls, eliminating overflow. Moving from a standard 5’’ system to a 6’’ system will allow the installation of larger downspouts and minimize the risk of severe water damage.

  • Soffit & Fascia

The aluminum-vented soffit is installed to bridge the gap between your home siding and the roofline. We then install custom, maintenance -free aluminum fascia to lock in the soffit and to ensure that the underlying wood is completely protected.

FAQ

Ontario Downspout Service specializes in residential drainage, downspouts, eavestroughs, and exterior water management for homes in Toronto and the GTA. The goal is to help homeowners move water away from the house, reduce the risk of basement leaks, and protect the foundation from long-term water damage.

Ontario Downspout Service serves Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, including communities such as North York, Etobicoke, Scarborough, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton, and nearby GTA neighbourhoods.

Yes. Ontario Downspout Service is licensed and insured. Homeowners choose the company because of its residential drainage expertise, hands-on service, strong workmanship standards, and long-standing reputation across Toronto and the GTA.

A drainage specialist looks at how water moves around your home, not just the visible exterior problem. Downspouts, eavestroughs, rooflines, grading, and foundation protection all work together. Hiring a drainage-focused contractor helps ensure the solution addresses the cause of the water issue, not just the symptom.

Yes. Eavestrough installation, replacement, repair, and cleaning are core services. A properly installed eavestrough system collects roof water and directs it into the downspouts so it can be moved safely away from the foundation.

Yes. Ontario Downspout Service repairs, replaces, installs, and optimizes downspouts for residential homes. This can include fixing damaged downspouts, improving placement, adding extensions, correcting poor discharge areas, and helping water drain away from the foundation more effectively.

Yes. Ontario Downspout Service also provides related exterior services such as soffit, fascia, siding, and residential roofing repairs or installation. These services support the home’s exterior protection, but the company’s primary focus remains drainage, eavestroughs, downspouts, and water management.

Homeowners should check their eavestroughs and downspouts at least a few times a year, especially after heavy storms, in the fall after leaves drop, and in the spring after snow and ice have cleared. Regular inspections help catch clogs, leaks, loose sections, and drainage problems before they lead to water damage.

You should call when water is overflowing from your eavestroughs, pooling near the foundation, leaking into the basement, damaging landscaping, or freezing around walkways. You should also call if your downspouts are damaged, disconnected, too short, or no longer moving water away from your home properly.

Yes. When downspouts drain too close to the house, water can collect around the foundation. Over time, that water can increase pressure against foundation walls and find its way into the basement through cracks, gaps, window wells, or weak points. Proper downspout placement helps move roof water away from the home before it becomes a bigger problem.

Downspouts should discharge water far enough away that it does not pool near the foundation. The right distance depends on the grading, soil, landscaping, and layout of the property. In many Toronto and GTA homes, downspout extensions or drainage adjustments are needed to direct water safely away from the foundation.

Common signs include water pooling near the foundation, overflowing eavestroughs, damp basement walls, soil erosion, washed-out landscaping, ice buildup near walkways, and downspouts that discharge too close to the home. These issues often point to a roof water management problem that should be corrected before it causes more damage.

Eavestroughs can overflow when they are clogged, undersized, poorly sloped, damaged, or not connected properly to the downspout system. During heavy Toronto rainstorms, older or poorly maintained systems may not move water fast enough, causing water to spill over the edge and collect near the foundation.

Yes. Clogged eavestroughs can cause rainwater to spill directly beside the home instead of flowing through the downspouts. When this happens repeatedly, the soil around the foundation can become saturated, increasing the risk of basement leaks, foundation stress, and exterior water damage.

Eavestroughs may need repair if there are small leaks, loose sections, minor sagging, or isolated problem areas. Replacement may be the better option when the system is old, pulling away from the home, rusting, overflowing regularly, or no longer directing water properly. A proper inspection can determine whether a targeted repair or full replacement is the safer long-term solution.

Larger eavestroughs can help some homes manage heavy rainfall more effectively, especially properties with large roof areas, steep rooflines, or frequent overflow problems. However, size alone is not the only factor. The system also needs proper slope, strong fastening, correctly placed downspouts, and a drainage plan that moves water away from the foundation.

Downspouts can fail when they become clogged, disconnected, crushed, poorly positioned, or too short. They can also cause problems when they empty onto walkways, driveways, garden beds, or areas where water flows back toward the foundation. The goal is not just to move water off the roof, but to move it safely away from the home.

Yes. Toronto and GTA winters can make drainage problems worse because snow, ice, and freeze-thaw cycles can block eavestroughs and downspouts. When melting snow has nowhere to drain, water can back up, refreeze, overflow, or collect near the foundation. A properly designed drainage system helps reduce winter water problems and ice buildup.

An ice dam forms when melting snow refreezes near the edge of the roof, blocking water from draining properly. While insulation and attic ventilation can play a role, eavestrough and downspout performance also matters. If water cannot drain away from the roofline, it can contribute to leaks, ice buildup, and exterior damage.

Proper drainage can greatly reduce the risk of basement leaks caused by roof water and surface water collecting near the foundation. However, not every basement leak is caused by eavestroughs or downspouts. Cracked foundations, window wells, plumbing issues, and grading problems can also contribute. A drainage inspection helps identify whether roof water management is part of the problem.

French drains can help manage certain drainage issues where water collects in low areas or near the foundation. They are not always necessary, and they work best when used as part of a larger water management plan. For many homes, improving the eavestrough and downspout system is the first step before considering additional drainage work.
